Special Counting Rules

  • Emoji: Count as 2 characters (including skin tone modifiers)
  • CJK characters: Count as 2 characters (max 140 CJK glyphs)
  • URLs: Always count as 23 characters regardless of actual length
  • @mentions in replies: Auto-populated mentions don’t count
  • Media attachments: Count as 0 characters from official clients

X Premium Long Posts

  • Requires X Premium subscription
  • Up to 25,000 characters
  • Can include text, photos, GIFs, video
  • Cannot save drafts or schedule on web
  • @mentions after 280 chars don’t notify users
